The Women’s Super League match between Liverpool and Aston Villa on Sunday has been postponed following the death of former manager Matt Beard. Confirming this in a statement released on Saturday, WSL said the match would be rescheduled. “A further announcement regarding the rearrangement of the fixture will be made in due course,” it said. Beard, 47, enjoyed a distinguished spell with Liverpool, guiding the club to back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014 and overseeing their first-ever Champions League campaign. He was reappointed as Liverpool manager in 2021, when he led the Reds back to the WSL and secured a seventh-place finish the following season, remaining in charge until February. Liverpool paid tribute to “an extremely committed and successful manager.” They added, “He was also a person of real integrity and warmth, who will always be remembered with genuine fondness by everyone he worked with at the club. Rest in peace, Matt.”

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted large consignments of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, skunk, and opioids in multiple operations across Nigeria, including at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and in several northern states. In a statement issued on Sunday by NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the Agency said two returnees from Brazil excreted a total of 116 wraps of heroin and cocaine after days in observatory custody, while other suspects were caught concealing drugs in unusual ways, including in underwear, food items, and phone chargers. According to the Agency, 46-year-old Ofoma Sunday was arrested on Tuesday, September 16, at Terminal 2 of MMIA on arrival from Brazil via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. The White House has denied that an alleged letter from Donald Trump to Jeffrey Epstein is authentic, saying the president "did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it". US lawmakers released the letter, which features a drawing of a woman's body, as part of a "birthday book" given to Epstein in 2003. The book was part of a trove of documents released by a US House committee, including the late paedophile financier's will and his personal address book, which includes the names of royalty, celebrities, models and politicians from around the world. One person was reportedly killed while scores are missing in a violent attack by armed bandits in Shagbe village near Igbaja town of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The attack occurred at about 21:15hours on Saturday, throwing the community into panic. A security agent disclosed to DAILY POST that “one person was killed during the violent invasion and eight others declared missing.” The source said said due to the volatile situation, an on-the-spot assessment is currently not feasible. Reacting to the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, informed DAILY POST that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Oke-Ode, is already in the area for on the spot assessment of the situation.

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, has explained that it is embarking on strike action on Monday, September 8, 2025, because Dangote Refinery and its management want to bring back slavery into Nigeria’s workforce. The union made its position known in a statement released on Sunday, signed by Williams Akporeha and Afolabi Olufemi, President and General Secretary. NUPENG had last week asked members to down tools  over anti-labour activities by Dangote Refinery. However, stakeholders including the Petrol Tanker Drivers and the Direct Trucking Company Drivers Association, DTCDA, have  kicked against NUPENG’s planned strike. But in update on Sunday, NUPENG insisted that Dangote-sponsored groups cannot stop its planned strike action. According to NUPENG, DTCDA is the recruiting company that was formed by Alhaji Sayyu Aliu Dantata and Alhaji Aliko Dangote for the 10,000 CNG trucks they are importing.
