Adamawa State on high alert as rabies cases surge

The Adamawa State Government has confirmed incidents of dog bites and resulting rabies in some communities of Yola South and Girei local government areas. The government, affirming reported rising cases of rabies in the affected communities, cautioned residents to be watchful, as the situation has serious public health implications. Airtel, MTN Sign Network-Infrastructure-Sharing Deal In Nigeria, Uganda

MTN Group and Airtel Africa have agreed to share mobile phone network infrastructure in Nigeria and Uganda.  Statements by the duo on Wednesday said the agreement is aimed at saving investments while still increasing service coverage. Mobile operators in Africa are seeing sustained demand for digital and financial services, but building and maintaining networks is expensive, especially for fast 5G connections. The companies also said they will explore various opportunities in other markets, including Congo-Brazzaville, Rwanda and Zambia. Among the deals under consideration are radio access network sharing, the largest portion of the cost in network deployment and operation; commercial and technical agreements for fibre infrastructure sharing; and, if necessary, the construction of fibre networks, they added. EFCC Busts Ponzi Scheme Academy In Abuja, Arrests 133 Suspects

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that its operatives have busted a Ponzi Scheme academy operating in Abuja. The anti-graft agency which made this known in a statement issued on Monday said that the operatives arrested 133 suspects linked to the fraudulent enterprise.   The Commission stated that the operation was carried out on Monday at Compensation Layout in Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following actionable intelligence on the illicit activities of the academy. According to the statement, the institution, identified as Q University (also known as Q-Net), was allegedly engaged in recruiting young Nigerians into a financial scam disguised as a wealth-building programme.    The academy reportedly lured individuals with the promise of unrealistic profit returns, training recruits to further enlist more unsuspecting victims into the scheme.

Samsung Electronics has announced the sudden passing of co-CEO Han Jong-hee due to a heart attack on Tuesday, leaving newly appointed leader, Jun Young-hyun, as the sole chief executive at a critical time for the company. Han, 63, had led Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices division since becoming CEO in 2022.   His death comes as the South Korean tech giant struggles to regain its footing in the competitive semiconductor and smartphone markets. Samsung confirmed in a regulatory filing that Jun, who was appointed co-CEO just last week at the annual shareholders' meeting, will now oversee the entire company.    Jun was previously promoted in 2024 to head the semiconductor division, which has lagged behind rivals such as SK Hynix and TSMC in the booming artificial intelligence chip sector.   Following the news of Han’s death, Samsung’s shares fell by 0.5%, mirroring a broader decline in the South Korean stock market.

The call was made during a webinar organised by the EU-Nigeria Agribusiness Platform , titled “Market Insights: Opportunities in the EU Edible Vegetables, Floriculture, and Grapes Import Markets.” The event brought together horticulture businesses, scientists, academia, government officials, farmers’ associations and service providers from Nigeria and EU countries. Participants emphasised the need for Nigeria to capitalise on the lucrative markets. Road Accident Claims 4 lives In Katsina

Four persons have been confirmed dead, and three others sustained various degrees of injury in a motor accident in Katsina State. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when a Volkswagen Golf car veered off the road, resulting in the death of the driver and three passengers. The victims were returning from Musawa, where they had gone to visit a sick person when the accident happened along the Musawa-Dan-Ali road around 11 am. A resident of Dan-Ali, Alhaji Tukur Dan-Ali, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Sama’ila Abdulmudallabi, Rabilu Ahmed, Hashiya Saminu, and Nana Aliyu. He noted that all the deceased were family persons and residents of Dan-Ali village. The injured, Hajara Abdulmudallabi, Jamila Abdulmudallabi, and Maikudi Salisu, are currently receiving treatment at the Katsina Federal Teaching Hospital.

Police nabs suspected car thief, retrieve 2 stolen vehicles in Lagos

The Police Command in Lagos State has detained a 22-year-old member of an armed robbery syndicate specialising in car theft. The command’s spokesman, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin , confirmed the arrest and detention in a statement to journalists on Saturday in Lagos. Hundeyin said that the suspect was apprehended in the Ikotun area of the state through intelligence gathering. “The syndicate targets vehicles in the Eastern part of Nigeria and transports their victims’ cars to Lagos and sell them. “During interrogation, he confessed to receiving three Lexus 330 and one Lexus 350 2017 model from an accomplice, a woman, who is still at large,” Hundeyin said. The police image maker said that the suspect led a team of operatives to where he sold the cars. “One Lexus 350 silver in color and a Lexus 330 black in color were recovered,” he said. A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday began hearing the case of defamation instituted by two operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) against the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP). The officers instituted the case last September following SERAP’s refusal to apologise to the DSS after accusing operatives of the secret police of invading its Abuja office. Miffed by the action of the civil society organisation, the DSS officers, Sarah John and Gabriel Ogundele, filed the defamation lawsuit in October 2024, seeking ₦5 billion in damages from SERAP. In addition to the remedy sought by the officers for what they called reputational harm, the two officers also demanded that SERAP should publish an apology on its website, national dailies and television stations. Bandits attacked Dutsin-Ma town in Katsina State on Tuesday night, abducting two students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma in the Bayan Gidan Radio area. The incident was disclosed by a security analyst, Bakatsine, in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday. American rapp er and YouTuber Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., popularly known as DDG, has sacked his cameraman for flirting with his date. I n a clip of his recent livestream making the rounds on social media, the rapper was seen on a date with model Tiana at a restaurant, but his cameraman, Johnny, kept distracting them by continuously flirting with the model. Lagos Assembly debunks reports of members’ planned defection from APC yet again

The Lagos State House of Assembly has again dismissed reports on the planned defection of 25 lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to an unnamed political party. Troops rescue many hostages in Plateau

Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have rescued seven kidnapped persons in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The Media Officer of OPSH, Maj.
